How to install Mechanical Bar Screen
-
Flow Speed & Installation Angle of Mechanical Bar Screen
- The recommended flow speed for wastewater passing through the screen should be between 0.6m/s and 1.0m/s. For mechanically cleaned bar screens, the installation angle should generally be between 60° and 90°. For manually cleaned screens, the angle should be between 30° and 60°.
- Note: Drum-type bar screens are typically installed at a 35° angle relative to the horizontal plane in the water channel.
-
Elevation and Layout
- For bar screen cleaning machines, the distance from the front bottom edge to the wall of the well should be more than 1.5m for cable-driven cleaning machines or mobile hoist grab machines, and more than 1.0m for chain-driven scraper machines or rotary solid-liquid separators.
- A working platform must be installed above the bar screen, and it should be at least 0.5m higher than the highest designed water level in front of the screen. The platform should also have safety and cleaning facilities.
- The side pathways on the working platform should be 0.7m to 1.0m wide. If using mechanical cleaning, the front pathway should be at least 1.5m wide, and for manual cleaning, it should be at least 1.2m wide.
-
Volume and Nature of Screened Debris
- If the gap between the bars is 16–25mm, the debris volume is estimated at 0.10–0.05m³ per 1000m³ of wastewater.
- If the gap between the bars is 25–40mm, the debris volume is estimated at 0.03–0.01m³ per 1000m³ of wastewater.
- The debris typically has a moisture content of 70%–80% and a density of about 750–960kg/m³.
