What Are Types of DAF Tanks
There are several types of DAF tanks available. The choice depends on the characteristics of the water to be treated, the treatment requirements, and other specific conditions. Common types include horizontal-flow and vertical-flow tanks, square and circular layouts, as well as integrated designs that combine flotation with coagulation, sedimentation, or filtration processes.

Horizontal-Flow DAF Tank
This is the most widely used type. Typically, the reaction tank and the flotation tank are constructed together. After coagulation, wastewater enters the contact chamber from the bottom of the tank, where bubbles and flocs are fully mixed before moving into the separation chamber. Floating scum is scraped into a collection trough by a skimmer, while clarified water is collected through pipes at the bottom of the separation chamber. -
Vertical-Flow DAF Tank
The main advantage is that the contact chamber is located in the center of the tank, with water flowing outward in all directions. This provides better hydraulic conditions compared to the one-sided outflow of horizontal-flow tanks, and it also integrates well with subsequent treatment units. The disadvantages include relatively low utilization of tank volume and difficulties in linking with the upstream reaction tank. -
Integrated DAF Tank
These are combined systems that integrate flotation with other processes. They are generally divided into three forms:-
Flotation–Coagulation type
-
Flotation–Sedimentation type
-
Flotation–Filtration type
