Usage and Maintenance of Activated Carbon Filter

Before the activated carbon reaches its adsorption saturation, it is necessary to perform regular backwashing to remove the large amount of bacterial colonies and suspended solids from the surface of the activated carbon. During backwashing, it is essential to observe the expansion rate of the filter material, generally recommended to be between 25%-50%.

If the expansion rate is too low, the lower layer of activated carbon will not suspend, resulting in inadequate cleaning. On the other hand, if the expansion rate is too high, it can cause the carbon to overflow, leading to filter material breakage. Therefore, it is crucial to control the appropriate backwash water flow rate and backwash duration.

During transportation, activated carbon should not be dragged with iron hooks. It should be prevented from being mixed with hard substances, and should not be subjected to strong vibrations, friction, stepping, or impact. Throwing is strictly prohibited, and handling should be gentle to minimize the breakage of carbon particles, which can affect its usage.

Activated carbon filters should be stored in a cool and dry place to prevent the inner and outer packaging bags from breaking, and to avoid moisture and the adsorption of other substances from the air, which can affect its effectiveness. It is strictly forbidden to store it with toxic or harmful gases or volatile substances, and it should be kept away from pollution sources.

During use, it is essential to prevent tar-like viscous substances from entering the activated carbon bed, as they can clog the pores of the activated carbon or cover its surface, preventing impurities from coming into contact with the expanded surface of the activated carbon, thus losing its effectiveness. If such substances are present in the water, they should be removed before the water enters the activated carbon.
