What Are the Causes of Damage to Filter Plates
-
Excessively thick sludge or residual dry solids can block the feed port. In this situation, there is no slurry medium between the filter plates in a Plate and Frame Filter Press, and only the pressure from the hydraulic system is applied. Prolonged compression under these conditions can easily lead to damage to the filter plates.

-
Insufficient feed volume or the presence of unsuitable solid particles in the feed can also cause excessive mechanical stress on the filter plates, resulting in damage.
-
If the filtrate outlet is blocked by solids, or if the feed valve or discharge valve is closed during start-up, the pressure cannot be released, which may lead to damage to the filter plates.
-
Inadequate cleaning of the filter plates may cause leakage of the filter medium. Once leakage occurs, the edges of the filter plates can be eroded, forming grooves. Significant media leakage prevents pressure build-up and makes proper cake formation impossible.
Corresponding Troubleshooting and Preventive Measures:
-
Use a nylon cleaning scraper to remove sludge from the feed port.
-
Complete the current filtration cycle and reduce the effective volume between filter plates.
-
Inspect the filter cloth, clean the drainage outlets, check the discharge lines, open the relevant valves, and release system pressure.
-
Thoroughly clean the filter plates and repair any damaged plates where necessary.
