Types of Filter Elements III
- Resin Filter Element
Resin is a porous, insoluble material used for ion exchange. In water softeners, the resin filter element contains millions of tiny plastic beads. Each bead has numerous negatively charged sites for ionic exchange. When the resin is regenerated, these sites are occupied by positively charged potassium ions.
As calcium and magnesium pass through the resin tank, they come into contact with the resin beads and replace the potassium ions at the exchange sites. The resin preferentially bonds with ions that have a stronger positive charge. Since calcium and magnesium have a stronger positive charge than potassium, they replace the potassium ions, which are then released from the resin bed, producing "soft" water. Eventually, all the exchange sites on the resin become occupied by calcium and magnesium.
- Activated Carbon Filter Element
Activated carbon filter elements are available in two types: compacted activated carbon filters and bulk activated carbon filters.
- Air Filter Element
Air filter elements, also known as gas filter cartridges or air filters, are primarily used in construction machinery, vehicles, agricultural machinery, laboratories, sterile rooms, and various high-precision operating environments to filter air.
