Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) refers to the process of using highly dispersed microbubbles to adhere to pollutants in wastewater, forming a float with a density lower than water to achieve solid-liquid separation and liquid-liquid separation. It is suitable for removing suspended solids, oils, and fats with a density less than 1t/m³ from water and can be used for both preliminary and advanced wastewater treatment. DAF systems are widely applied in industries such as oil refining, paper manufacturing, chemicals, coking, laundry, and food processing.

3. Principles and Applications of These DAF Systems

Pressure Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Pressure DAF primarily consists of a pressure pump, releaser, sludge scraper, air compressor, chemical dosing system, and power distribution system. It is suitable for treating water with low turbidity, high color, high organic content, low oil content, low surface-active substance content, or algae-rich water. This system is widely used in industrial wastewater treatment for industries like paper manufacturing, dyeing, electroplating, chemicals, food processing, and oil refining. It is especially suited for small-scale wastewater treatment with a capacity of less than 500m³/d.

Compared to other types of DAF systems, Pressure DAF offers advantages such as high hydraulic load and a compact tank structure. However, its complex process, high energy consumption, and the significant noise generated by the air compressor limit its application.

The Pressure DAF process is divided into several stages: mixing/coagulation zone, dissolved air release zone, sedimentation zone, dissolved air water recirculation zone, sludge tank, and clean water tank.
